Some kids fall in love with the ocean through the science of it — tide pools, currents, kelp forests — as much as through surfing or swimming.

What Good Ocean Science Programming Includes

  • Hands-on tidepooling: real observation, not just worksheets about marine life.
  • Local ecosystem focus: Santa Barbara's kelp forests and rocky intertidal zones are unusually accessible for kids.
  • Connection to conservation: understanding why ocean stewardship matters, not just facts to memorize.

How We Build It In

Kids learning marine science with Sea League

Every Sea League season weaves marine science into the water time itself — identifying kelp, understanding tides, learning why the water changes color. It's part of why we call ourselves Sea League and not just a surf school.

For school groups specifically, our Pelagix program is built entirely around this kind of hands-on ocean education. For general ocean science curricula, see NOAA Ocean Service Education.
