Living near the ocean means water safety isn't optional knowledge — it's a life skill, the same as knowing how to cross a street safely.

Core Skills Every Kid Should Learn

  • Recognizing rip currents: what they look like and how to escape one.
  • Reading conditions: understanding tides and swell before entering the water.
  • The buddy system: never entering the water alone, no exceptions.

Where This Gets Taught

We weave water safety into every single Sea League program, not as a separate class but as the foundation everything else sits on top of. Every coach is certified in ocean rescue before they ever lead a session.

Whether or not your kid ever competes in the water, these are skills worth having simply for living where we live. Our Big Blue Bridge program builds these fundamentals from day one.

For nationally recognized water safety standards, see the American Red Cross.
